What do I get from a custom garment that I can't get from ready-to-wear?
• How many times have you been shopping for that special garment only to find it either doesn't fit, they just don't have the right color, or the styles are not flattering on you?
• A custom garment is just that. It is made to your unique measurements. It is the color you want, the style you want, and the fit you need.
How do I order a custom garment?
• Initial contact can be by phone or email. At this time, you will need to provide a brief description of what you are looking for, your time frame, and schedule your initial free consultation.
• During the initial consultation we will discuss style, fabric choices, colors, and rough costs. Feel free to bring any photos you may have to help you convey what you are looking for. This can be very helpful in the design process.
• A few days later, you will recieve a detailed estimate of your garment by email or US Postal mail. If you accept the estimate (all estimates expire in 15 days), please sign and return the estimate with a non-refundable cash or check deposit equal to 50% of the final price, by mail or in person.
• Upon recieving your deposit (if by check, receipt of deposit occurs when the check clears), I will contact you to schedule your measurement appointment.
How long does it take for a custom garment to be made?
• On average, custom garments take 4-8 weeks to finish, from receipt of deposit. The actual time will vary depending on the complexity of the garment, fabric choice, and availability of client for appointments. If you require a rush order, please discuss this with me at the initial contact.
How much do custom garments typically cost?
• All garments are unique, and are therefore priced uniquely. However, my clients are surprised at how affordable a custom garment can be. All costs depend on the complexity of garment construction and fabric choice. Please feel free to contact me and discuss pricing.
How many times will we have to meet?
We will meet at my in-home studio several times, including but not limited to:
• Intial consultation
• Measurement apppointment
• Typically 2 fittings (sometimes more depending on the complexity of the garment). These will be a mid-construction fitting and a final fitting. Your estimate will include how many fittings are included in the cost of your garment.
• Additional appointments above and beyond the original estimate can be scheduled for a nominal fee.
• Garment pick-up day! At this time the full balance of the estimate is due in cash. Your garment will be pressed and ready for you to take home and enjoy.
What happens at my measurement appointment?
• For your measurement appointment, you will need to wear snug-fitting, lightweight clothing. An extensive set of body measurements will be taken. Your garment will be constructed from these measurements.
Do I provide the fabric and supplies?
• I have access to an extensive selection of fabrics in many textures and colors. Normally I use these sources for all client orders, but please feel free to discuss special personal fabric choices with me.
Are there any special requirements for bridal party gowns?
• All members of your bridal party will go through the process outlined above, either as group or individually.
• I do offer a special service to bridemaids and maids of honor. For a small fee of $50/dress, each of member of your bridal party can have their dress shortened to cocktail dress length, so that they can wear their dress for future occasions. Many bridesmaids and maids of honor have taken advantage of this unique service. This service is good for 90 days from date of final purchase.
What if I don't live in your area?
• While it is preferrable that clients are available for in-peerson measurements and fittings, it is possible to work with clients out of the area.
• All out of area clients should feel free to contact me to dicsuss the garment creation process.
Do you make wedding gowns?
• While I do not specialize in wedding gowns, many of my styles and designs of dresses can be created for a modern bride. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your wedding gown needs.
Do you make maternity wear?
• Yes, I do create maternity wear for special occasions. Special occasion maternity wear does require a modified process of construction and fittings, so please contact me to discuss your needs.
